Machiko Watabiki began teaching Japanese to business professionals at Philips Language Systems in 1985 after developing English education and teaching materials at Shogakkan Home English Center. From 1987 to 1994, she conducted 5000 hours of Japanese language lessons at major foreign affiliated companies such as British Petrol, Jardine Fleming Securities Limited and Woori Bank as a freelance instructor. She completed the 420-hour Japanese Teacher Training Course at Labo Japanese Language Institute and also studied the theory of language acquisition at the Graduate School of Tokyo Woman’s Christian University. She joined JAL Academy in 1995 and was involved in Japanese language training for foreign corporations over the course of fifteen years as General Manager of the Japanese Language Section in the Global Training Division until 2009. Machiko Watabiki passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test in 1994 and is a member of The Society for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language. She holds a B.A. in Literature from Keio University.

Kazumi Yamada lived in Europe for 13 years from 1985 to 1998 in London, Paris, and Luxembourg. She taught Japanese language to business professionals in Luxembourg from 1991 to 1994. In 1995, she completed the 450-hour Japanese Language Teaching Diploma Course at the Institute of International Education in London. She also taught Japanese at the University of Essex Graduate School, Saint Paul’s School for Girls and the American School in London as a part-time instructor. After returning to Japan, she conducted research at the National Center for University Entrance Examinations and the National Institute of Multimedia Education on various topics including bilingual education and development of Japanese language tests for university students. She joined JAL Academy in 1998 and taught Japanese language for major corporations. She also designed various courses for business professionals as the Chief Course Designer from 2003 until 2009. Kazumi Yamada is a member of The Society for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language and holds a B.A. in Literature from Keio University.
